My youngest daughter, who is four, picked up the phrase “Good news/Bad news.” I’m not sure where.

We’re on the way to pick up her sisters from school and she says to me “I have good news and bad news.”

“Okay,” I tell her. “Give me the bad news first.”

“There is no bad news. The good news is that the flowers in front of our house are blooming.”

“That is good news,” I say.

Seconds later, she says, “I have good news and bad news.”

“Okay, what’s the good news?”

“There is no good news. The bad news is that someone’s dog pooped in the grass on our cul-de-sac.”

“Oh,” I say.

“But we know the owners and they cleaned it up.”

“So, there is good news,” I explain. “The good news is that the owners cleaned it up.”

I always enjoy seeing my girls learn new things and this new way of framing the world is an exciting development in the way Maggie is communicating with me.

So, today I want to share some good news/bad news of my own.

The bad news is that I am going to take a blogging break. Those of you who know me well know that I have high expectations of myself. I try to keep to a regular posting schedule here. I have been blogging three times a week, with few exceptions, since I started writing LeaderTalk in April 2009.

The good news is that it will not be forever. I’ll be back in a week or so and I have some fun posts planned.

It’s possible that you might not have noticed me taking a break.

But if you would have noticed, know that the other good news is that I am doing this to spend more time with my kids as the school year ends and to give myself some time to rest and reflect.

Tell me something! What is your good news? What is your bad news?
