It’s no secret that we are in the midst of a pandemic, and work-life, school-life, and life in general are in great upheaval. For a successful book launch during this time, we are still recommending that you show up on social media. It might feel awkward or even uncomfortable to show up online during this time—that’s why you need to shift the content you are posting, as well as your mindset. You have to show up differently during a time of crisis.
During life as normal, we recommend 20% of your content be book-related promotion. During a time of crisis, we recommend you put all promotion on the back burner. Why? Because this is a time to add value to your audience. Ask yourself the following three questions to create a social media plan in this time of upheaval.
- If you’re debating if you should show up on social media during a time of crisis, ask yourself this first question: “Can I add value to the current conversation?” If you answered yes, then we think you should continue sharing your valuable content.
- The second question you should ask yourself during a time of crisis is: “How often do I need to be a part of the conversation?” You don’t have to be a part of the conversation daily. In fact, we are recommending to most of our clients to pull back on the frequency of their posting.
- The third question to ask yourself is: “Is there something special I can create to help people during this time?” It’s really important to see if you can create unique, specific content during this time of crisis. It could be as simple as a great blog post. And if you can’t think of something unique to offer, that’s okay too.
The key takeaway is that during a time of crisis we want to cut away the fat and get straight to the meat. For social media marketing, that means you want to get straight to the value in your content. Always recognize what is going on in the world, because we all know what is happening. Posting content that doesn’t speak to what’s happening can be very off-putting. You have to address the elephant in the room—our lives are different, how we are working is different as well as how we are living.
