This post begins with a confession: sometimes I think about quitting.
Don’t worry โ I don’t think about it in a serious way. I think about it in a wondering way. I wonder what it would be like to drop my kids off at school and come home to a cup of coffee and a novel, a load of laundry and a trip to the grocery store โ open-ended days with no deadlines.
I wonder because, honestly, this is hard work.
If you are new to this blog, I’ll give you a quick snapshot ย of what I do: I lead a growing social media company. This is my 8th month in. I coordinate 5 subcontractors to serve 20+ clients. I am also a mom to three school-aged daughters, and I’m in charge of drop-off, pick-up, after-school entertainment and homework wrangling, dinner…
So there are competing priorities and high expectations (mine and others’). There is responsibility. There is a never-ending to do list and all the ideas I want to pursue but haven’t yet.
There are doubts. And fears. (Yes, there are.)
So, I wonder. I imagine life without this work.
And every time, I come back to this: I love this work. It makes a difference for me, and it makes a difference for others. This is what I am meant to do. It’s worth it.
So I will keep going.
I am the founder/CEO of the Weaving Influence team, the author of Reach: Creating the Biggest Possible Audience for Your Message, Book, or Cause, and the host of the Book Marketing Action Podcast. I’m a wife and mom of three kids, and I enjoy running, reading, writing, coffee, and dark chocolate.
Love it! I need to take your resolve to heart and push myself through those hard times. I think this is a universal principle that can be applied to whatever is the most challenging at the moment. Work, family, health, friends, etc.
You were right, I do love this blog, and your message. If you can do it, with the conglomerate you built, with three kids…I sure can! You’re inspiring to me, Becky, thank you. ๐
Hang in there, Nadine. You’ve got this!
Glad to know you have those fleeting thoughts as well — but then don’t act on them. There are times when inertia on an act is a good thing. ๐
I’d like to quit on potty training, homeschooling, doing laundry and whining today. What is it that makes this 2 second dream of quitting so sweet when we were made to give ourselves away? Maybe it’s the reminder that we were created for perfect. So much of what crosses my path in a day is fallen, but perfect is in my future. That’s the dream I’m counting on. Keep up the great work, Becky!
Thank you, Lisa! I don’t know that you will ever be able to quit laundry but perhaps quitting potty train is achievable eventually? I love this — we were created for perfect. ๐
The more I see and come to know the more I feel there is so much to learn from & so many to emulate. Was feeling low, when I read this, thought .. God sent. “I will keep going, fighting all odds.”
I am so glad my post encouraged you. Keep going!!
