My youngest daughter, who is four, picked up the phrase “Good news/Bad news.” I’m not sure where.
We’re on the way to pick up her sisters from school and she says to me “I have good news and bad news.”
“Okay,” I tell her. “Give me the bad news first.”
“There is no bad news. The good news is that the flowers in front of our house are blooming.”
“That is good news,” I say.
Seconds later, she says, “I have good news and bad news.”
“Okay, what’s the good news?”
“There is no good news. The bad news is that someone’s dog pooped in the grass on our cul-de-sac.”
“Oh,” I say.
“But we know the owners and they cleaned it up.”
“So, there is good news,” I explain. “The good news is that the owners cleaned it up.”
I always enjoy seeing my girls learn new things and this new way of framing the world is an exciting development in the way Maggie is communicating with me.
So, today I want to share some good news/bad news of my own.
The bad news is that I am going to take a blogging break. Those of you who know me well know that I have high expectations of myself. I try to keep to a regular posting schedule here. I have been blogging three times a week, with few exceptions, since I started writing LeaderTalk in April 2009.
The good news is that it will not be forever. I’ll be back in a week or so and I have some fun posts planned.
It’s possible that you might not have noticed me taking a break.
But if you would have noticed, know that the other good news is that I am doing this to spend more time with my kids as the school year ends and to give myself some time to rest and reflect.
Tell me something! What is your good news? What is your bad news?
I am the founder/CEO of the Weaving Influence team, the author of Reach: Creating the Biggest Possible Audience for Your Message, Book, or Cause, and the host of the Book Marketing Action Podcast. I’m a wife and mom of three kids, and I enjoy running, reading, writing, coffee, and dark chocolate.
Hi, Becky
The Good News . . . you’ll be back:.
The Bad News . . . I didn’t do more of this when my kids were that age.
The Good News, Part Deux . . . you never stop being the parent.
The Bad News, Part Deux . . . you never stop being the parent.
Enjoy those kiddos!
John
Becky. Good for you. Take the time, now while you have it. They grow so quickly and you never know how much time you have together. Good memories are worth more than all the gold in Fort Knox.
Becky, You know that I agree with both John and Dean. Time spent with your children is worth more than any measurable substance.
You are younger than my youngest. Four of our five grandchildren are older than your little girls, and our youngest little guy will be five tomorrow. Take it from the “senior” member of our team, this is a week for everyone’s memory book.
To quote John ” the good news – – you never stop being a parent”
Trust me, that is really good news.
Love the Maggie story. Make sure you’re writing those stories.
You and the girls, and their children will all want to hear them again.
Becky, Anything you do that is taking care of yourself is good news as far as I’m concerned. And maybe you’ll be able to take some time to reflect on your priorities and motivations – always a good thing to do periodically. Holding you and your family in my heart. ~Jesse
Kudos for taking a blogging break. You are a wise woman.
My bad news: I’m still dealing with vertigo.
Good news: The ongoing vertigo is making me cling to my word for the year, which is “hope.” I am determined to have hope in this circumstance.
So now that I was late to the party, how close are you to realizing the Good News aspect of coming back to Blog. It was a good move to check out by the way. Sometimes you need to really reset that clock good and proper!
