Review and Update Your Social Profiles

| | 12-Minute Tips | 4 Comments

If you have been using social media for a while, you likely created profiles long ago. If you are like me, you rarely (if ever) review and update the content of your profiles and bios online. After, you are short on time. You want to use your online time to create content and relate and connect with to others.

It’s possible that you’ve made life transitions (small or large) that are not yet reflected in your profiles. It’s important to keep your online information current, especially your contact information.

This week, I invite you to take a deep breath and take some time to review all your profiles. I’ll share tips this week that help you take the time to be sure your profiles are up-to-date. I’m going to participate with you! This time will be strategic and well spent so I hope you’ll join me.

First, a note to any beginners who are reading this post. If you have not yet created profiles on the major social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+), you’ll want to get a free copy of my Social Media Quick Start Guide. The quick start guide will walk you, step by step, through the process of starting your accounts.

Plan for This Week’s Review/Updates

Set your timer for 12 minutes. Find a place to take notes (a word doc, your favorite notebook), and make a list of all the places online where you have a profile, account, or bio. You will use this list as you review and update your profiles. If you have any dead accounts, accounts you are not using regularly, add those to your list. If you have any time left after creating your list, spend a few minutes thinking about your branding. What unique qualities do you most want to express online? If time allows, write down a few ideas. As you review your profiles throughout this week, you can check to be sure you are expressing your brand effectively.

What a smart suggestion. I haven’t looked at most of my bios in over a year (more in most cases). Can’t wait to get them all updated and coordinated.
