Have you made the switch to the Facebook Timeline?

If not, here is some advice to help you get started. Or, if you have upgraded to the timeline but you’re looking for a way to make your cover photo really special, check out this post from Mashable. If you want to read even more about cover images, you can read Mari Smith’s insights, here.

For today, I want to focus on updating your personal Facebook profile, even if you have not yet upgraded to the timeline.

Here are some ideas about what you might want to update:

Your employment information. Have you started a new job? A significant new project? Add those!

Family information. Have new family members joined Facebook? Do you have change in your relationship status?

Your general bio. Do you have any new interests to share? Have you included a link to your business website/blog?

Your photo. Are you using the same photo across all your social media profiles? Are you ready for a change?

Your email address. Do you have a new email address since you joined Facebook? Add it to make it easy for friends to contact you.

Your privacy settings. Facebook changes privacy settings frequently. Read updates here, and make any needed changes.

Your password. To maintain the security of your account, change your password regularly.

Your username. Do you have a user name? If not, you may want one. User names make it easy to share the link to your Facebook page. If you already have one, you may not be able to change it. Find out, here.

Today’s Tip: Update Your Facebook Information

Set your timer for 12 minutes. Using the ideas above, update your personal profile on Facebook. If you have extra time, explore the timeline feature, using the ideas and suggestions from the links above.

Having trouble finding motivation to update your profiles? Remember that people who want to get to know you more will look at your profile, so you want to be sure that they can find current information.

What changes will you make to your Facebook profile today? Post a link here or share in the comments about the changes you’re making.
