It’s been a fun morning for a social-media-loving home body like me.
I spent the first part of my day with some self-proclaimed social media newbies — at home, in my basement, with my 11 year old daughter taking drink orders at one point.
A perfect morning for me: my kids close by and happy, a cozy fire in the fireplace, talking about social media, making a difference by sharing what I know with people who were eager to learn.
We started by talking about influential people in our lives. I asked each participant to share about someone who has influenced their life — and why.
I did that to keep all of our conversation about social media in perspective.
Social media channels are platforms — tools — for connection. We make the biggest difference in and through personal relationships. People connect to people. People influence people.
I started the day talking about influence in personal relationships in the hopes that we would all remember what really matters.
People. Relationships. Connecting. That’s all.
A side note: I also love seeing the power of social media in making things happen.
During our training, I received an email from a client, one I immediately shared with the group as a lesson and evidence of the value we can find through social media.
My client, Dean Vollmar, the owner of 1stframe.com, emailed to tell me that as of 10:31 am, thanks to our social media promotion, he had already matched last year’s Black Friday sales. As of 1:13 pm, he had already doubled last year’s orders.
Isn’t that exciting?!
I love making a difference and making things happen.

Really appreciate your truism on the basis of our most important connections. Without the personal contac, it’s just media.
That sounds like a great approach, grounding social media in a broader (and more accessible) context. Congrats to you & your client on their successful day!
