How easily can you tell the story of your business?
Who else knows it? Do your employees? Do your customers?
Stories are a powerful way of communicating. People remember stories; they share stories with others.
Your story sets you apart from other businesses. When you share your story, you make your business memorable and you create opportunities for your customers to connect with you, engage with you, and identify you.
As you begin to set up profiles on various social media channels, your story will be an important part of what you share.
If you are not already sharing the story of your business effectively through social media, I encourage you to think about these questions:
What makes your business unique? How are you different from your competitors?
How did you get to where you are?
What significant events or experiences have shaped your business?
Where are you going?
Who are the important characters in the story of your business?
How will you get to where you’re going?
Reflect on these questions to get REALLY clear about your story.
Once you’ve spent some time reflecting, I want you to write out the story of your business in two or three short sentences. You should be able to do this in less than twelve minutes.
Then, you can use those sentences as you create or update your social media profiles on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+.
When you are clear about your story, and you tell your story in memorable ways, you’ll create a memorable, recognizable brand for your business.
Take a few minutes, today, to write down your story. Consider how you might share your story with your current and prospective customers through social media.
I’d love to hear you’re the story of your business. Feel free to share your two to three sentence story here or on our Facebook page.
My second video is posted at Toledo BizConnect TV on the topic of sharing the story of your business. I hope you’ll check it out and then browse and watch some of the shows from the other hosts.
